INVISTA Announces A New Solution-Dyed Nylon Color For Use In Qualified CORDURA® Fabrics For Military Applications
INVISTA developed a new Solution-Dyed Nylon (SDN) yarn with built-in Near Infrared signature reduction for use in CORDURA® fabrics for the US military. The new SDN Desert Sand yarn is engineered to match Natick's color (Desert Sand 503) and Near Infrared (NIR) signature reduction requirements.
Initially intended as a background shade for printing, the new color can be used in a multitude of applications including broad woven CORDURA® fabrics, webbing/tapes, cordage/laces, elastic shock cords/webbing, and mesh fabrics. SDN based CORDURA® fabrics provide best-in-class color consistency and full compliance with military specifications for color and NIR signature reduction.
“The NIR signature reduction properties of this yarn have been exclusively developed for use in certain U.S. military fabrics,” says Bill Colven, global business director, CORDURA® brand. “By offering enhanced concealment, the yarn offers US forces an advantage over the enemy when used in combat gear such as the Interceptor outer tactical vest.”
To enhance concealment, the exact color and NIR signature are permanently built into the fiber. SDN based CORDURA® fabrics utilize nano- and micro-sized particles to provide permanent long-lasting color and NIR durability. SDN based CORDURA® Desert Sand fabrics and webbings are available in solid color fabrics or printed with Army Universal Camouflage pattern.
These SDN yarns are offered in both 500- and 1000-denier configurations and round out INVISTA’s military related CORDURA® fabric palette which currently consists of the following colors: Foliage Green-504, Coyote Brown-498, Ranger Green, Camo Green-483 and Black.
