CORDURA® Fabric Celebrates 30 Years Of Innovation

After three decades of solidifying its reputation as the durable material of choice for the military, CORDURA® fabric, a certified product of INVISTA, is honored to celebrate its 30th anniversary by debuting the newest line of CORDURA® branded military products in 2007.

New products being featured this year, include:

  • CORDURA® NYCO knit fabric
  • CORDURA® NYCO fabric with P140 Static Dissipative Fiber Technology
  • 500-denier and 1000-denier Solution-Dyed nylon yarns with built-in near infrared signature reduction for use in CORDURA® fabrics for U.S. Military

“We are thrilled to celebrate 30 years of innovation with the military market," says Bill Colven, global business director, CORDURA® brand.   “We have worked hard to build a reputation as the premier durable fabric for the U.S. Military, and as we share this important milestone with valued industry partners it seems fitting to continue to offer pioneering products to meet the market’s individual needs.”

CORDURA® fabric has influenced the military market for many years, which in turn has led to great innovations within the industry, including the recently launched CORDURA® NYCO knit fabric, CORDURA® NYCO fabric with P140 Static Dissipative Fiber technology, and the newly introduced Solution Dyed Desert Sand yarn for use in CORDURA® fabrics. The revolutionary new CORDURA® NYCO knit fabric offers No Melt No Drip performance for combat soldiers in high temperature environments.

The U.S. military mechanics coverall, which is recently available in the Army Universal Camouflage pattern, is made from CORDURA® NYCO fabric with P140 Static Dissipative Fiber.  CORDURA® NYCO fabric with P140 static dissipative fiber provides increased wearlife lasting two to three times longer than 100 percent cotton, as well as protection in environments where static electricity can be a nuisance and a hazard.

The Solution-Dyed CORDURA® fabric is engineered to match the shade and NIR requirements for the Desert Sand background color in the Army Universal Camouflage pattern.  To enhance concealment, the exact color and NIR signature are permanently built into the fiber.  Solution-Dyed CORDURA® fabric  utilizes nano- and micro-sized particles to provide permanent long-lasting color and NIR durability.  The Desert Sand Solution-Dyed CORDURA® fabrics and webbing are available in solid colors or printed camouflage patterns such as Army Universal Camouflage Pattern.   Initially intended as a background shade for printing, this new color can be used in a multitude of applications, including: broadwoven CORDURA® fabrics, webbing/tapes, cordage/laces, elastic shock cords/webbing, and mesh fabrics. Solution Dyed CORDURA® fabrics provide best in class color consistency and full compliance with military specifications for color and NIR.

Desert Sand is the newest edition to the Solution Dyed CORDURA® fabric military color portfolio and the fourth new color developed for the military in this millennium.  Foliage Green 504 and Ranger Green were the first colors specifically developed for U.S. Army in this millennium.  Coyote Brown 483 and Black are also available in the military color palette.

In addition, CORDURA® fabrics come in a wide variety of weights and types, each appropriate for different end uses.  No matter what the application, one thing remains true, CORDURA® fabrics have a superior strength-to-weight ratio, so even the most lightweight products remain extremely strong, durable, and yet versatile for any activity.
