BIO: JUSTIN "TRAUMA" LICHTER

Justin Lichter is a force to be reckoned with in the hiking world. The 27-year-old earned the trail name "Trauma" after his cross-country trip through the canyon country of southern Utah in 2002.

The New York state native has always been drawn to the outdoors, hiking, and seeing and experiencing new places. What sets Trauma apart is his drive to explore on human power, without machinery and petrol. It's that force within him that challenges him to tackle difficult terrain, weather conditions and distances.

The hiker turned author has written a guidebook for the International Appalachian Trail - from Mt. Katahdin, Maine, to Cap Gaspe, Quebec, and he currently is writing another guidebook that chronicles his most recent trip - a traverse of the Southern Alps and the South Island of New Zealand.

Trauma's other past hikes include:

• Thru-hike of the Appalachian and International Appalachian Trail - 2,800 miles from Georgia to Cap Gaspe, Quebec (2003).
• Thru-hike of the Pacific Crest Trail and Pacific Northwest Trail - 3,200 miles from Mexico to Canada, then west to Cape Alava, Washington (2004).
• Continental Divide Trail and Great Divide Trail - 3,700 miles from Mexico to Kakwa Lake, Alberta (2005).
• Eastern Continental Trail, Pacific Crest Trail, and Continental Divide Trail - 10,000 miles (2006).
• Traverse of the Southern Alps and the South Island of New Zealand - 850 miles (2007).

Trauma has more exciting trips planned for the future. He anticipates hiking the continental divides of all seven continents, through which he will travel nearly 40,000 miles on foot. Along the way, he will use a number of products that feature CORDURA® fabric, including his Granite Gear backpack, stuff sacks, wallet, shelter and Yoni's dog pack (Trauma's traveling companion).

When he's not exploring the world on foot, Trauma works as a ski patroller in the winters. He enjoys telemark skiing, cross-country skiing, skate skiing, mountain biking, and pretty much anything outdoors and active. Occasionally, he finds the time to relax and enjoy a good book. Trauma currently resides in Truckee, California.
